“Honorary Life Fellows of IESL”, “Honorary Fellows of IESL”, “Fellows of IESL”, “Honorary Life Members of IESL”, “Members of IESL”, “Associate Members of IESL”, “Affiliate Members of IESL”, “Companions of IESL”, ”Associates of IESL” and  “Students of IESL” and “Provisional Members” of the Chapter are collectively referred to as MEMBERS of the Chapter.

“Honorary Life Fellow of IESL”,  “Honorary Fellow of IESL”, “Fellow of IESL”, “Honorary Member of IESL”, “Member of IESL”, “Associate Member of IESL”, “ Companion of IESL ”, “Affiliate Member of IESL”, ”Associate of IESL” and  “Student of IESL” refer  to the members  of respective  membership classes of IESL and they are financial members of the IESL. These members automatically become members of the Chapter upon application and there is no fee to join the Chapter.

However, a new membership category known as ‘Provisional’ has been offered to Engineers who live in Queensland up to 7th December 2019.

In order to become a Provisional Member, the applicant shall be a resident in Queensland and shall provide evidence to satisfy the Committee that he/she has one or more of the following qualification/criteria:

(a)  the applicant had been a  member of IESL in the past and had ceased to be a member for non-payment of subscription fees

(b)  the applicant is an engineering graduate of a University recognised by the IESL or possesses any other qualifications acceptable to IESL for the class of Associate Member or a higher class

(c)   the Committee is satisfied that the applicant is working as an engineer in Queensland

(d)  the applicant is a member of any other professional engineering association where both the name  of the  association and the class of membership are acceptable to the Committee

The provisional membership is free.

 

Application Process - Chapter Membership

An applicant for Membership of the Chapter must be proposed by one MEMBER (the proposer) and seconded by another MEMBER (the seconder). Of the proposer and the seconder at least one should not be a Student. An application for Membership must be:

(a) in writing; and

(b) signed by the applicant and the applicant’s proposer and seconder; and

(c) submitted in the Membership application form as decided by the Committee

Upon receiving an application for a class of Membership (other than for the class of a IESL Provisional Member), the Secretary, must obtain confirmation from IESL of the applicant’s membership status.

Reinstatement of IESL Membership

The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka has introduced a reinstatement process for engineers who have not been able to maintain their membership for many reasons.

Chartered Engineers

Stage 1 Engineers who are 1 to 3 Years in Arrears

They can pay the re-registration fee, submit an application for reinstatement and CPD records with a declaration and be reinstated in the membership subject to checking and confirmation of the availability of records in substantiation at the Secretariat and acceptance by the Council. Refer Note 02 of the Reinstatement process.

Stage 2 Engineers who are over 3 Years in Arrears

They Should apply for re-admission to membership as a new applicant and will be required to follow the process of registering as a fresh member with a new membership number. Refer Note 03 of the Reinstatement Process.

You will require to submit CV and a report of 1500 – 2000 words demonstrating the maintaining of the competences 3, 4, 5 that are evaluated for the corporate membership.

Professional Review Rules

Associate Members

Stage 1 Engineers who are in 1-3 Years in Arrears

They can pay the re-registration fee, check the records of educational qualifications at the Secretariat, submit the application for reinstatement with the declaration and be reinstated in the Associate membership after acceptance by Council. If the associate member has been registered in any pending training programs with the IESL, he/she will have to be reinstated in such programs after the membership is reinstated.

Stage 2 Engineers who are over 3 Years in Arrears

They should apply for re-admission to the Associate membership as a new applicant and will be required to follow the whole process of registering as a fresh Associate Member with a new membership number.

 

Other Classes of Membership

Student Members: Membership will be reinstated after verifying the status of the studentship on production of evidence of continued enrolment in the study program.

Affiliate Members: The procedure will be similar to that for the Associate Members.

Associates and Companions: The procedure will be similar to that for the Associate Members.

Note 01: Irrespective of the above recommendations, if a member wants to get the membership as a fresh member (with a new membership number) such member can apply and do so. Previous membership status will be null and void in such cases. Entrance fee and registration fees and other
applicable fees for a fresh member will be applied as it is.
